Böda Skogsjärnväg (Forest Railway)
Why not take a slightly different type of trip on an island? Go by train to Trollskogen on Öland's only railway. It is 4 km long and goes between Fagerrör and Trollskogen. The forest railway line was laid between 1908 and 1909, and then the line was 27 km long. But following World War II when cars became more popular, the railway line was closed for good. The association Böda Skogsjärnväg that runs the line today was founded in 1974 with the intention of rebuilding and using appropriate parts of the original railway line. In 1994 the present stretch of line which goes to Trollskogen was opened.
